MOW2 What's Your Problem?

Productivity Held Back by Menial Tasks

There are many administrative and repetitive data entry tasks that have fallen on members of the development team and are taking up too much time in the day. This includes a lot of data hygiene and clean up as we work to make our donor database more effective for the whole organization. This is preventing those team members from focusing on strategy and more high level analysis with the aim of identifying fundraising... more »

MOW2 What's Your Problem?

Use of Technology and Software Siloed between Departments

As many parts of the organization operate fairly independently of each other, there has been a lack of communication regarding the technology and software being used by different departments. This can, and in some cases has, led to overlap and redundancy in signing up for new software when existing software could be used, and the extra cost could be avoided.

It would be instructive to perform an audit of existing... more »

MOW2 What's Your Problem?

Increasing the clients-served by 2-3X over three years

San Diego MOW current serves ~3200 clients (may be much higher based on 2020 demand) with 43% over 85 years of age and 84% falling into the low or extremely low income level. What is the current available market (served/total that could be served) and what would be required to scale operations and grow the client base 200-300% over 2020 finish by 2025? Although an aspirational growth number, it would require a bold approach... more »

Healing Lesvos 2020

How Might We Sponsor an Olive Farm

Lesvos has over eleven million olive trees. Olive groves and family-owned farms symbolize much about the island: its connection to land and community. Plus, Lesvos olive oil is delicious and should a delicacy throughout the world.

Sponsoring a family farm could be a gift or a life-long commitment allowing people to get to understand the island, and feel part of what's happening there (including its environmental and... more »

How to get newly remote teams to settle into new workflows?

With COVID-19 pandemic forcing teams who are used to "line of sight" and meeting room based communication styles to work remotely, how do we change our workflows/communication to better facilitate this new reality? It has to be done quickly and should use methods that will help us in the post pandemic environment as well.

MOW2 What's Your Problem?

Measuring Outcomes & Impact

Currently, MOWSDC only regularly and systematically measures our program's outputs (number of meals provided and clients served). MOWSDC is lacking a regular and systematic evaluation for outcomes and impact (ex: decreased perceived food insecurity, decreased social isolation, support the maintenance of independent living of older adults, prevention of going into a residential home, and reducing the risk of nutrition-related... more »

How To Be The Idea Guy / How To Be The Idea Gal

How can we create a two-sided Book? trending idea

I was thinking about a two-side book: one is How to be The Idea Guy, and turning it over reveals the other, How to be The Idea Gal.

Two equal covers would help demonstrate the equality in the authors and messages. They are equally important.

Both covers could be promoted, like the old TV Guides, but the single book would be purchased ensuring that both messages are received.

Working From Home - A Dream for Some, A Nightmare for Others

While some of us dream of being able to work from home in our pajamas, away from the prying eyes of our bosses, and the endlessly distracting office gossip; there are people out there that find working from home to be dreadful & difficult to do. I have a few friends that while their work is all done remotely, they always get dressed and head out to a new location to work from because home is either too distracting, or... more »

MOW2 What's Your Problem?

Communication between volunteers and staff

I think communication barriers exist between staff and volunteers. I have seen this as a volunteer driver. When clients have a problem or request and I report those to the office, no feedback or change seems to result, even when requests are repeated. I have also heard that office staff do not communicate well with meal prep staff and volunteers. Is there a way to open this up, perhaps with a written communication method... more »

How To Make a Next Generation App?

From what I understand, Meals On Wheels has an app that does a lot to help coordinate activities, routes, requests, and much more.

If you use the app, what do you think of it?

If you would change the app, what would you do?

MOW2 What's Your Problem?

Lacking program operations oversight & ownership

I believe we could greatly benefit from having a dedicated person that oversees program operations. MOWSDC currently doesn't have someone responsible for operations across the entire organization for existing and new programs. This lack of program operations oversight and ownership causes confusion over who is doing what, overlap in efforts, details getting overlooked, and program management being put on the back burner.... more »

MOW2 What's Your Problem?

High-lighting senior-volunteer relationships

I believe a lot of power, specifially marketing and fundraising power, can be held in the stories and testemonials from seniors and volunteers about the importance of their emotional connection. If we begin to steer our focus a little bit more on how Meals on Wheels is truly more than just a meal, we will create revenue from new and old donors. For many people, when seeing how impotant these connections are to our clients,... more »

How to expand tourism options by leveraging our Blue Hope Spot?

We should explore how co-creating the Avlaki Hope Spot with global stakeholders can yield new tourism to the North Aegean Region and migrate to other spots in the Med to fast track transition to sustainability.

Eg. Diving, snorkelling, kitesurfing, scuba, artisanal fishing, conservation of critically endangered marine species, open water swimming events, coral restoration, educational programmes

Commission Army - Navy vessels for Immigrants & Refugees

What about commissioning vacant and unused Army/ Navy vessels, or even vacant properties across the globe to accommodate people until proper resettlement solutions are found in view of international obligations, while we allow the islanders to get back to rebuilding their livelihoods so we can help those who can't?
Who is brave and 'mature' enough to put a stop to the absurdity of building more detention processing centres,... more »

What's Your Problem?

How do I find higher-quality clients?

I do video work. Most of my clients have been gained via word-of-mouth. While the experiences are positive, they are low-paying and I am doing all of the work. I want to get higher-paying clients that pay to cover a full film crew and allows me to purchase new equipment as needed. I just don't know where to go about finding them.
